Visit from the Georgia side of the family!

Levi, Jenny and Sydney came for a visit the week before Sydney started school. It was a fun filled week. We packed quite a few things in, but found some time to relax too.

We went to St. Michaels on the Eastern Shore in Maryland. It was a nice picturesque town on the Chesapeake Bay. We had crab cakes and they were quite delish!We also did Gettysburg with them. They have such a nice new museum there.We also went to Hershey Park one day. It was quite a HOT day but we managed to have fun :o)

Our blackberries were still on and needed to be picked so we made some more blackberry syrup with the help of Sydney and Jenny. Of course we had french toast in the morning with raspberries, blackberry syrup and whip cream....can I just say YUM!!
Bonus.....Levi mowed the lawn for me! I LOVE this new mower...everyone wants to ride it!
Did you say you wanted to ride it too?? Come on over =D (just look at how fast it moves! It's a blurrrr!) Levi even helped with a few of Gordon's 'To Do' list things! Thanks Levi!!

We even made it to an Orioles game. They lost unfortunately!

Visits with Bryan

We made a couple visits to Bryan and Melissa's last month....one time to finally meet little miss Katie and the next to see Katie blessed. We had good times both times.

Here I am first meeting Katie....doesn't she look happy to see me?What do I do with her now??

We went blueberry picking with them. Boy were there some BIG blueberries on those bushes! It was a bit of a hot day so of course we had to go for ice cream when we were done :o)
The girls went for a swim after naps....I wanted to get in with them it was so hot!

Before church on Sunday...

The baby blessing visit we went to a Sun Flower Maze! The shape of the maze this year is that of a bee!

We let the little girls pick the path for us to go.....we finally had to make an executive decision and take charge or else we would still be in there going around in circles! Even they got tired!! (this is the bee's stinger in the maze!)

Gordon got some great sunflower and bee shots. There were bees all over those sunflowers!
They kept hives at this sunflower farm. They offered honey for sale but we didn't buy any for we had a bunch in our trunk of our own honey!! We may need to plant more sunflowers in the garden in the future for our little bees :-)

The girls were quite entertaining like usual!
The girls LOVE playing with Grandpa Gordon! They were happy to see me but were asking "Where's Grandpa Gordon?" as they were peering around me!!

I hope Bryan and Melissa's camera got better shots than our camera did...our pictures turned out blurry.

We had wonderful trips both times!

Phillip's Visit

Phillip, Lisa and the kids made a trip in a life time to visit us!!!! We were soooo excited for them to come for a visit. We did so many fun things while they were here.

We first went to Gettysburg...
And then we did a couple days of Washington DC...

We had a nice bbq the last evening they were here. (Actually looking closer at the pictures we had pizza this night!!) We had such a good time with them. Wish they lived closer!

It was a greeeeeaaaaaat time!!!!

My oh my....it's been a long time since I visited! I have a lot to blog about but I don't really have time to do it! But here are some pictures of Bryan and Melissa's visit before their cute little baby was born!

We had such a good time. We went to the Baltimore Zoo
where we had a picnic and the girls got to feed the giraffe!

We also celebrated Amber's birthday while they were here. Look at the cute cake Melissa decorated! It has a zoo theme using frosted animal cookies. It was Yummy too besides being cute!

We have a Little Tykes Car that the girls all like and we got Amber a little trike for her birthday. We took Amber out of the little car and put her on the trike. She looked at the trike and she looked at the car and looked back at the trike and yelled out "NO...I don't want it!!" We all busted out laughing! So we put her back in the car and Robyn got on the trike and LOVED it! Oh well....so glad someone likes it :o)

Melissa machine quilted 2 quilts she made for the girls' 'big' beds while she was here. She did a nice job!She's such a happy quilter :o)

Actually - the Maryland bee inspector showed up at our door on Memorial Day to check out Gordon's hives. They passed with 'flying' colors!

It's been a while!

It's been quite a while since I have posted.
When I left, this is what my front walk looked like...

My Easter flowers :o) (sorry for fuzzy pictures...from my phone camera!)

I ended up going to Grand Junction to help my mother pack and move to Denver so that she could be closer to one of my brothers. What was suppose to be a 2 week trip ended up being 2 days short of a month! There was a huge rock slide on I-70 which closed up the freeway for awhile and we didn't want to take 2 big moving trucks over the 200 mile 2 lane detour!

Final destination...
I did get to take a break to go see the girls and their families in the Salt Lake area. Kelly and I sewed a bit with me showing her a few different ways to apply a zipper and a few other quilting techniques. Wish she were closer so we could take advantage of both of our sewing machines together more often!

Lylia loves mini M&M's I then went to Jennifer's where first we went to a sale at a fabric wholesaler ( did you know you can get 5 bolts of fabric into a suitcase!!), and then we went back to her house and with said new fabric made a duvet cover, curtains, pillow case and pillows for little Maddy's room! Whew...what a glorious whirlwind :o) Here are some pictures.

I also bought some of the giant ric rac to sell with the fabric in me new Etsy Shop. (still can't believe that I am trying this!) I was planning on taking pictures of the new ric rac to post and realized that Gordon took the camera to China with him!

This is a little over kill, but so was the storm! So I will make you suffer along with me! hehe (can you tell we were traumatized by all the snow?) I feel like we live in Lake Tahoe without the benefits of the ski lifts!

That was some snowfall here! Here are some of the pics we took during and after.

Gordon took a series. He took one shot every hour Friday afternoon into the evening and the next morning.It's a good thing he snow plowed at midnight the night before...this would have been a lot worse!

Our neighbor...his driveway runs the entire length of our property! And I think WE have a long way to plow!

Disney Marathon

Gordon and I flew down to ~~sunny, warm~~ sleeting, freezing Florida to see Venita and family and to be volunteers at Disney World's Half Marathon on Saturday morning! We got up at 3:30am to get there by 4:30am. We were at water station #6 :o) There were 17,102 finishers on our race! WOW!
Unfortunately, I forgot to take my camera, so Venita took a picture of us volunteers after the event. Venita came down with the flu so she didn't feel well enough to go with us :o( I was so sad for her. It was because of her efforts that we were all signed up for the event! There was Sarah, Tim, Gordon and I. We were layered up to the gills! I had on a sweater, fleece jacket, ski coat, plus the wind breaker and a rain poncho they gave us. It was COLD! What ever happened to going to Florida in the winter to get away from the cold up north?

Gordon and I each came down with the flu too! I got sick Sunday morning and Gordon got sick Monday morning....ugh! But we still managed to have a good time :o)

The missionaries came for dinner Monday night. I took some dipping chocolate with us, so we had a great dessert of dipping all kinds of goodies into dark Belgium chocolate....yuummm!

Thanks Venita and Tim for a good time :o) Next year, same time?....but with warmer weather please?

A Beekeepers Soap

Yes - we did it! We made soap yesterday! And it even turned out :o) Gordon made soap way back when in chemistry class, and I know that Melissa has done this type of thing for a job. So for them this is easy-peasy :o) But it is all new to me and WAY fun to boot!

Here are our supplies all set up.

I am measuring out the specialty oils and fats. Our recipe includes beeswax and honey from Gordon's honeybees :o)
These are the molds that Gordon made from wood and we lined with wax paper.

Here is Gordon stirring the Lye very carefully outside where it is freezing!

We have combine the melted oils and fats with the lye and I am mixing it with a hand blender being careful not to fling the mixture about.

Me in my protective gear! (have to be cautious with the lye) I look like something from a sci-fi movie!

This is near the end when it is thickening up (reaching 'trace') and I am finishing it with a wire whisk. (it's gone through saponification! I am learning all kinds of new words....be impressed....cause I am!)

It's been poured into the molds and we tried to even it out with a spatula.

We cover them with their lids and then wrap them up in a blanket for 24 hours.

Gordon just removed them from the molds.

Now they are cut into something of a bar!
Now we let it cure for 2-4 weeks. We'll keep you posted :o)

A Geogia Christmas

We got back New Year's Eve from spending a week with Levi, Jenny, and Sydney down in Georgia. We had a great Christmas and a great time with family! Here are a few pictures showing what we did......We popped some poppers that Jennifer sent us and these are the cool crowns that were inside!
We had a nice Christmas Eve dinner with a Honey Baked Ham that Jenny had to go to the store twice before they would sell to her......who knew you had to have an appointment to buy a ham??

Sydney baked and decorated these little goodies for us.The little Kitty was one of her favorite gifts...it was so cute. It would meow, purrr, open and close it's eyes and stretch out. Oh no....I can't remember it's name :o( It went everywhere we went!

We went to the Coka Cola Factory Museum in Atlanta. Boy, what a crowd there was! It was fun though.It was COLD outside! We had to wait in line to get in. Almost felt like waiting in line at Disney!

Here's the Coke Bear...he was quite cute and fun to watch. Look at his different facial expressions. We didn't get in the line for our picture with him...too long.I just liked this art piece!

I didn't realize that Coke got it's start in Atlanta. The museum was quite fascinating and seeing the memoriabilia was fun.

The BEST part was at the end where they we could test a lot of their different drinks that they offer from around the world. Each stand was of a different continent. There were some very nasty tasting ones and lots of very yummy tasting ones. Jennifer...the one from Honduras was one of the more yummy ones! By the time we left this area, we were pretty sick of soda!
Afterwards, we went to the American Girl Doll store north of Atlanta. Sydney was in little girl heaven!Even Gordon had a good time at the store :o)Sydney had some Christmas money and chose one of the twin dolls....and I can't believe I didn't get a picture of her with her doll!!! Levi will have to send me one of his pictures so that I can post it here.

Have I kept you in suspense long enough about Sydney's big gift? She got a key board! They set it up in her bedroom next to her bed. I showed her how it would play a song, so she would play along with it and when it finished she looked at me and said "I play good, don't I?"

Oh I have to tell you another Sydneyism....we were sitting at the table for breakfast after opening our gifts. I don't remember what the conversation was about exactly but Sydney turned to Jenny and said "All you have to do is give Santa a call on his Cell Phone!!"

Gordon and I went to Bryan and Melissa's last week for Halloween. We had such a good time with them and the girls. Here are a few pictures of the highlights!

Little Witches

I made these cute little skirts and embroidered the shirts for the 4 little girls. I think they turned out so cute. I am anxiously awaiting pictures of little bodies in the skirts to show them off :o) I think the pattern can be made for bigger girls too, so next time I will have to try to make one for Sydney too so all 5 can match....even though they are all in different places :o( I will post pictures as I get them.

Adventures in Steam Juicing

Last weekend , Gordon and I tried our hand at making apple juice. We had made some grape juice this summer using the grapes from our garden. It took two days and it wasn't easy at all! We knew there had to be an easier way. I saw this in the flyer we got about a month ago. I hadn't ever seen or heard of one before. I happened to mention it to a friend and she said she had one that she loved it! She explained how it worked and just how easy it was to use. That sold me on it and we ordered one from Amazon I think. Any way - here are some pictures of our adventure into apples!

We started with a bushel of apples. (these were seconds and were much cheaper)
You start by washing and quartering your apples and putting them into the steamer basket.
This is the middle section of the Steam Juicer. The steam comes up from the bottom to through the funnel and the juice is collected here.

The steamer juicer together on the stove top. (There's a lid that goes on top, but you couldn't see the apples if I put the lid on!)
After collecting the juice through the tube into a collection pitcher and poured into hot jars and canned, we scooped the mushy apples from the top and put them (skin and all) through a food mill that we had for the kitchen aid. The sauce you can see coming through the strainer part in the middle and down into the bowl, and the skin and seeds out the end into another bowl.
The end products!
We ended up with 12 quarts of juice, 16 pints of applesauce and a quart of apple butter that we put into smaller jars. It was amazing and very easy. I am so anxious to share.....where are the kids at when you want them around??

Tomatoes and Basil

We didn't get as many tomatoes this year as we have in the past. So we didn't do any canning with the tomatoes, but we did freeze some of the tomatoes with fresh basil and garlic to make fresh tomato sauce for spaghetti this winter. I found the recipe in the newspaper and thought I would try it.A happy shot of me during canning!

We had a wedding shower here for Stacey Brosenne. She is getting married at the church on October 24. She won a reception at a beautiful reception hall in Fells Piont (Baltimore)! She was so lucky and surprised! I'm excited to go and see this place. Will tell you about it after the reception! It's official....I am an extremist....at least that is what some of the news media are calling those of us who attended the 9/12 rally or demonstration or whatever you want to call it. My sister, Vicki, flew into town to attend it and I went with her along with Heather who was living with us at the time. ( A wonderful young woman who moved here from Phoenix for a job and we rented out a room to her for a month. She moved out yesterday and I miss her already!)

Anywho ( as my friend would say :p) We went to Washington DC to show our support to the constitution of the United States and to say that we are not pleased or happy with the way things are going at the moment with our government. I really enjoyed it! I have been feeling like I could never speak up and that I had no voice....but this gave me a voice and a place to share my feelings with other people of like minds. It was very powerful and enlightening.

Jamberry good time!

Hello!

It's that time of the year of berries! Gotta love those berries....raspberries, blackberries, and razamataz berries (okay - so there are no such things as razamataz berries, but don't they sound good?).

To celebrate the berry season - we will make anyone who comes for a visit a raspberry/blackberry milkshake! We also have on hand raspberry and blackberry freezer jam, and blackberry syrup for those yummy pancakes, waffles, and pieces of french toast :o) Any takers?We'll have a Jamberry good time!!

Gordon's new toy!

Gordon got a new toy to help him with the honey harvest! It holds 20 frames of comb and honey. The one he borrowed last year only held 6 frames....so you can see what a huge improvement this one is....PLUS he doesn't have to hand crank this one :o) He has bottled 114 pounds of honey so far and about another 150 in buckets. He still has quite a few frames of honey to spin and harvest. A lot of local beekeepers lost half their hives this year. So Gordon did extremely well.
We already have people putting in their requests to buy his honey!

Visit from the Fiskaroonies!

Bryan, Melissa and girls came for the weekend and what a weekend we had! They got here late Thursday night and left Sunday about 3pm. We went down to the Inner Harbor in Baltimore (I'll post some camera pictures later of Baltimore) on Friday, got rained on, went home made ribbon skirts and wands for the girls, and had Smokey's for dinner! Saturday, we went to the ribbon outlet where us girls had a blast picking out cheap ribbon, had lunch at Wendy's, went to Antietam battleground, picked up a couple of babysitters, went to Texas Roadhouse for dinner with friends, and then went to see the new Harry Potter movie! Boy did we have fun! I think we were all pretty tuckered out after a couple full days of fun.

We went to church today, came home, fixed dinner and then they had to leave :o( The house if way too quiet now. sigh.......

I haven't posted any of my pictures from our visit to Utah this last May. Craig and I met half way between Grand Junction and Utah and we took this fun picture :o) He was coming from Mother's house and I was going to Mother's house! This is near Green River I think.I had fun at Women's Conference with Jennifer, Vicki, Angela and Michelle. I only got a couple pictures of Jennifer and I though :o( I need to be more diligent with my camera!

I had fun with Lylia and Maddy....oh yea....the parents were fun too :o)

Tim and Venita visit

Tim and Venita and their family were here in Maryland visiting Tim's mother a week ago. They came over for dinner (we BBQ'd chicken using Grandpa Larson's famous chicken recipe!). We also had homemade icecream....raspberry and peach! Yum!! Tricia, Brent, Amy and Joey came over too. We had a nice evening. After dinner the kids played crochet out on the back lawn...unfortunately, Lizzie got stung by a yellow jacket. Darn that bug!! Poor Lizzie :o( Of course I forgot to pull out the camera!

The next day, after a doctor's appointment I met Venita and the family up at Gettysburg. They have a new museum up there. They had already been through it, but I told Gordon that we need to go back up there to see it. But anyway - we went over to the outlets and had lunch and proceeded to do some shopping! It was fun just to hang out and visit with them. We then went to Tim's mother's favorite restaurant and I had my first soft-shell crab sandwich! Interesting is all I can say! At least I can say I have had one.

Later that same week, I hosted a meeting for my longarm quilting group. I made this fruit tart for the first time. It was sooooo good! Plus it was pretty too.
I cut these flowers from the side of my house. Look how big they are!

New look to my quilting blog!

This blog has been used for and about my family. I now have a new blog for my family so be sure to bookmark it or better yet, become a follower! This blog will now be devoted to my quilting quests. My little business is picking up and I would like to show case those quilts that I have the privilege to work on and the great customers that I get to work with :o)

I just finished a Memorial Quilt for Traci in Florida. This is a quilt in memory of her mother. It was quite interesting to work with the different fabrics and colors that were sent to me.

Here is the quilt in progress. Laying out the blocks and shirts.

Here is the back of the quilt. I wanted her to see the fabrics she sent in larger pieces. I loved pieced backs also.

We had a fun spring break.....Levi, Jenny and Sydney came up from Georgia to visit for the week. We did all kinds of fun things. We went to the zoo,

went to Washington DC on the Metro,

played some basketball out front,

A Time to Mourn

I hadn't realized that it had been so long it had been since I had made an entry. I have been putting off this entry. It's difficult to put into words the sadness that I feel.

My dad passed away. He had been battling pancreatic cancer for 15 months. I am happy that he was with us for as long as he was, but it is bittersweet to see him go. I am glad that he is no longer in pain, but am sad to not have him around anymore. Not being able to call or visit him. My dad was to our family as the polar star is to sailors. It never changes it's place; it's immovable and constant. That was my dad.

He was constant, steadfast, immovable and always abounding in good works.

*Constant in his love for his family. Always had a listening ear, offering love and affection whether I was right or wrong. Always there with a hug.

*Steadfast in his dedication to God, church, & family. We always knew he would be there for us.

*Immovable in his morals and principles. A man of integrity.

*Always doing good. Whether it was mowing a lawn for the widowed, helping someone with a car problem, writing the family missionaries weekly, never speaking ill of anyone, supporting his family in their accomplishments, rejoicing in the good times or sorrowing in the hard times, everyone knew that they could call Odell/daddy/grandpa and that he would be there for them no matter what.

I find great comfort in knowing that my dad is in a better place with family and friends. We believe that families are forever. I know that I will see him again and that our separation is temporary. I hope and pray that I can be half the good, kind person that he is. He left quite the legacy.

George and Ginny Hurt were here this weekend. They spent Thursday night with us which was fun. We got to catch up with each other. We had dinner with them and Gadberrys and Sheppards at Habib's. Love that place....such yummy food. I got to quilt a quilt top for her. She made it for her grandson who turned 8 and was baptized today. (their reason to visit Maryland!)

I Love Scraps!

I love scraps and scrappy quilts! Bonnie Hunter came and spoke to our quilt guild last year and I really enjoyed her lecture and trunk show of quilts. This is one of her quilts in progress... I started doing the things she suggested and then bought her book 'Scraps & Shirttails'. I wanted to include one of her links to some information that I didn't want to loose and would be able to find quickly.

Hi Everyone,

I have finished a few projects so I thought I would share. This is a quilt that was a consignment from a lady that liked my display quilt at the Liberty High Craft show. I finally finished it! I machine quilted this quilt for someone else.
This is my second quilt from her! woohoo! Hopefully I will get more quilts from her in the future. I finished these little scrap bags last night. I will use them next to my sewing machine and cutting table for the thread scraps, etc. I thought they turned out cute.

This is my next project...a sample t-shirt quilt for Jomax. I will be teaching this class in March! I will show you the results.

January update

I realized that I haven't posted anything since before Christmas...so it is time for an update!

We went to Bryan and Melissa's a couple days after Christmas so we could see them and their new house. We had a good time with good food,
fun games, and great company! Oh - and did I say snow?? Here are a couple pictures looking out their front window!We also had fun playing with the helicopter he got for Christmas.

I was in the mood on New Year's Day for something yummy and homemade, so I decided that I was hungry from some warm, homemade bread. So is used a recipe from the Lion House cookbook and made this whole wheat bread and sweet rolls. Of course I used my cookbook holder Jennifer gave me and the pretty red pan from Jenny! It was really good. They slid out of the pan a little too easy and made this mess! But it was still exceptionally yummy! I will have to share the recipe with you. If you want it let me know and I will send it your way.

Kelly gave us this cute bird feeder and it is being put to good use! The local birdies LOVE you, Kelly! (the picture was taken from inside the house out of the window...sorry for the fuzzy picture!)

I have also started the red wall quilt for a customer. Here is a sneak peak! I really like the fabrics.

The week before Christmas...

I have had a busy couple of weeks. I finished my first customer's quilt and a friend, Deon Tait, finished her daughter's quilt, and I did baking with Tricia and a new sister in the ward, Mary Halsey. This picture shows my portion! So you can imagine how many cookies we actually made!
We also went to my work party at Turf Valley, went to a Christmas party at Seaman's in the ward where we had a 'White Elephant' gift exchange. I got "Mr. Bill" (oooohhhh noooo!) and Gordon got the humongous TV remote! (You will be seeing more of Mr. Bill in our future travels!) We had a good time. Last night we had dinner with other friends, Taits, Stephens, and Bettridges of Hampstead ward. The food was yummy and we played Hit or Miss. It was a nice evening.

Today was Sunday and we had fun in Nursery as always :o) We did sticker Nativity sets and gave them reindeer candy canes that I made plus we had taken their pictures earlier and made their parents ornaments using their pictures. It was a fun day!

It's me! I won the Judges Choice award for the quilt challenge Tuesday night at my local quilt guild, Four County Quilt Guild! woohoo!! The challenge was to make something from something that inspired us. This is what I chose.....

I won a $20 gift card to a local quilt shop! Yippee!!! I've never won anything for any of my quilts. Of course it might help to actually enter something into a contest!

Tomorrow, I actually have my first customer quilt to quilt. Actually....I have quilted for Ginny Hurt and my Aunt Janet. But this is a quilt that a total stranger is entrusting to me.....scary! I will post pictures when I am done.

Here is another little quilt I have recently just finished. It is a quilt-as-you-go type. so when you are done sewing it, it is quilted also!

Oh....oh....I also got my first consignment to make a quilt for someone! She wants me to make her this quilt -

I had it as a display at my craft show and a couple of ladies asked about buying it and one came back asking me to make her one just like it :o)

I haven't put up any Christmas decorations yet...too busy. But I did manage to get up my snowman quilt and needle punched snowman. So let it snow!

Fabulous Thanksgiving Fun

We had a GREAT Thanksgiving week here at the Weatherbee house. We had Levi, Jenny and Sydney fly in a week ago Friday night and Bryan, Melissa, Robyn and Amber drive down Tuesday night. We had a blast all week long. We played video games (alright - the guys played video games!), played board games, quilted a quilt (Melissa's first quilt! I'm so proud of her), played ping pong and some pool, played on the swing set and glider swing, read some books, watched the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade,
ate some turkey, stuffing, potatoes, homemade rolls, pumpkin pie, chocolate cheesecake, birthday ice cream cake, (Melissa's birthday is next week), and did I mention that we ate too? :o)And of course we made time for some cuddles!

Sadly, everyone left today :o( The house is VERY quiet without all the fun going on. Levi called and told me that Sydney said on the way home "Let's say all of the fun things we did in Maryland!" That is so Sydney....I'm glad that she had a fun time to remember! She was all about 'fun'. She prayed for fun too! Little Robyn was in heaven having a big cousin to play with and follow around. I think she will be a little lonely this week without her play buddy.

A week ago Satuday, I did a local high school craft show. I wanted to high light my t-shirt quilting business and quilting services. I think it went quite well. I handed out all of my business cards and sold some of our yummy honey and a few other trinkets that I made.I even had a couple of ladies wanting to buy my red quilt on display!
I received my first phone call as a follow-up to that craft show! woohoo!! She wants me to machine quilt her quilt top for her.

We gave Sydney a gift card to Create a Bear and Levi and Jenny said she had a lot of fun. I think the bear she picked is very cute! I can't remember the name she picked out for her new friend!

I made Sydney a couple little 'twirly' dresses. They were fun to make and they said she liked them and had to be reminded to take them off so they could be washed :o) I think she is adorable!!

Lisa's visit

I meant to mention that Lisa and Alexandria came to Maryland to help Lisa's sister with a new baby, and we got to have them for a short stay before they flew home. It was so fun to have them here even if it was for one evening. It was great to be able to catch up and get to know silly Alex better!

It's been a while since I have posted, so did you give up on me? I have a lot to catch you up on....so let the fun begin!

Of course I am not big on being wordy so we will try to tell you of our adventures with lots of pictures.

We went to Utah for over a week where we stayed with Vicki for a few days. (Andrew, Michelle, Kyle, Vicki, Moose and Kona)

This allowed us to be close to BYU. One of Gordon's graduate professors retired this year and he had invited his graduate students back. Gordon got to attend one of his last lectures, lunch and then dinner with a group of them. I got to attend dinner and it was fun. We ate at an Indian food place on Main Street in Provo. I got to sit next to a graduate student from Brazil who was quite a kick. Nice guy.

Then we went to Tooele for a couple of days and stayed with Kelly and Justin and Lylia. That was fun too. Lylia has grown so much since my last visit :o) I bought all of the little girls matching dresses.
I got pictures of them...unfortunately, not in the same state! Jennifer took a couple really cute ones of Maddy and Lylia. I will have to get one from her. And then we got one of Amber and Robyn when we visited Syracuse.

After Tooele, we went to visit my parents in Colorado for a couple of days. It was a really nice visit. He was a good sport and played 'dress up for us with some Nigerian shirts we found while looking for something else! My dad is doing pretty good. He tires easily and the pain was getting to him, but other than that, he was in good spirits. We got to go with them and meet his doctor and see the place where he gets his chemo treatments. It's a very nice, sunny place with very nice people. I was able to hand deliver the quilt I made for their 53rd wedding anniversary. I named it 'Come dance with me", because they always loved to go dancing and I remember my dad saying to my mom at home when there was good music playing...'come dance with me'. Very appropriate and sentimental.

On our way back to Utah, we decided to stop at Moab and see the Arches there. We are always talking about doing it, but never had....so....we just did it! We had a fun time there. The day was beautiful. Perfect for a little hiking to a few of the arches. We enjoyed our little side trip.

Back to Tooele just in time to repack and to leave the next day for home. Only we had a bonus because Jennifer and Maddy came back with us! Maddy and Gordon played at the SLC airport for a little bit before we boarded the plane.
Maddy did pretty darn good for her first flight. It was nice with the 4 of us being on one row. We could take turns entertaining Maddy and passing her back and forth. Of course, Mom was still her favorite seat :o)

Back home, Jennifer informed me that we were doing a "make-over of my bedroom". I tried to reassure her that it wasn't necessary, but she was persistant and now it looks like a new room! Of course, we were all exhausted afterwards, but it is sooooo nice to walk into now. I actually have a room that I am not embarassed to show. We painted walls and funiture. I still need to make valances, but I will! Jennifer left me with a 'to do' list. (I will post an 'after' picture soon!)

We did manage to make time for some other fun and games. We did some shopping and eating out. We even manage to squeeze in a day trip to Philadelphia which was great fun. It was a beautiful fall day.
We had a good time. We just wore poor Maddy out....she got her naps in when she could. We call this the Maddy hand dance!
Of course, we had a difficult time getting out of Philadelphia! Oh - I take that back....we got out just fine but going the wrong direction across a bridge where we had no idea where we were headed! I told Jennifer to get the map and to tell me where we were headed..."I don't know how to read a map!"....."You are going to have to learn reallllll quick!!" It was quite the humorous conversation (now it is...then it was a little tense lol!) "Where are we going?"...."I don't know!!"...."What do you mean you don't know...what does the map say??"....."I don't know!!" Now, we can laugh. Needless to say, we made it home safe and sound. Of course, we had to pay for 2 more tolls and we were without money! Now THAT was interesting...pulling up to the toll booth and trying to explain that we were out of money. I guess we weren't the first, not will we be the last :o) They will bill us! All's well that ends well!

Then we drove up to Syracuse to spend a few days with Bryan, Melissa and the girls. It was fun to spend the time together. One of the days we went to Palmyra for one of Jennifer's roommates wedding. Meridith. What a beautiful bride she was. Aren't the red shoes too cute!Jennifer's other roommate, Ann, was there too. So it was fun to watch them all together. Jennifer was Meridith's photographer. She did such a nice job. The fall leaves made for such a beautiful back drop. We did the Sacred Grove while Jennifer did the wedding temple pictures.
Melissa and Bryan took pity on little Maddy and took her home with them for the rest of the day for a good nap and then fun playtime with her cousins while Jennifer and I finished up the day at the reception doing the pictures. We were going to go to a pumpkin patch on Saturday, but we awoke to a day full of rain! So we mostly stayed indoors and played and napped.

Sunday, we went to church (Bryan, Amber, Robyn, Melissa)(2 cousins ready for church! Robyn and Maddy)

and then I left to drive home and Bryan drove Jennifer and Maddy to Rochester to meet up with Ann and to fly home. I guess poor little Maddy had a rough 1st flight home. Luckily, Ann was there to try to help out, and to give Jennifer support. Yea for Ann!

It was a long 3 weeks, but it was LOADS of fun. Before we left for Utah, I finished 2 quilts. One for Gordon and me (I call it Raspberry Truffle...it's NOT pink...but rather raspberry colored....that's what I told Gordon because he didn't care what color it was as long as it wasn't pink!! That's my story and I'm sticking with it! lol)The one for my parents 'Come dance with me'.

Okay - I hope it didn't bore you too much and I hope not to take so long to update in the future!

Fall and nursery

I just love the fall season. I love spring, but there is something about fall. I love the colors of fall, the coolness, the crispness, the fresh apples and applesauce donuts (when I can find them!). I love to decorate for fall. So in that spirit, I will share a couple of things that means it's fall at the Weatherbee home....(of course it's gotta mean quilts!) This first quilt I made because I love the colors of the fall leaves. So it is my renedition of the fall leaves! I just love the fun Halloween fabrics so I made this one in honor of the fun side of Halloween.

Oh, Gordon grew these gorgeous pumpkins. They greet you at the door :o)They are the prettiest colors. They are flat on one side, so they don't stand up :o) Fun, Fun!

I went into Nursery today and took a few pictures of Gordon and his nursery kids. I thought you might enjoy a couple of them! The kids think Gordon is part jungle gym! They love him and he loves them. Whenever he leaves the room, I've been told that the room goes quiet as they watch him leave and they wait until he returns :o) One little girl calls him 'Brudduh Wedderbee'. When they go to visit family in Ohio and they take her to that nursery, she just stands at the door and asks "Where's Brudduh Wedderbee?" Of course he's not there, so she won't go in :o)

Gone back to school....kind of!

A friend, Deon Tait, and I took a class this last week at a local scrapbook store. It was for Photoshop Elements. It was a 2 hour class where we took a couple of pictures with us and we created a 12 x12 page. It was a lot of fun, and we came away with a cool page! Of course I have to show off my page! It's not really all that good, but it was fun and I learned a few things in the process (now if they will only stick to me!).

We have been enjoying our table outside for our meals. I just want to enjoy our pretty weather while we can. We can watch the birds and deer from our deck.

We have 2 particular little friends....little hummingbirds. We have 2 hummingbird feeders. I didn't think we had any little birds around. But low and behold...we do! I have learned that hummingbirds don't play well together. One will come to eat and the other will come and chase it! They are quite fun to watch.
Gordon is gone to Chicago this week....so let the party begin! hehe....That will teach him to leave for a week :o) Who's bringing the chips? Actually, it's pretty lonely around here when he's gone. I asked him to bring me a t-shirt home from Chicago. He just scrunched up his nose and said 'That means I have to go shopping and you know how much I enjoy that!' I tried to get him to get me one from Venzuela, but you'd have thought I had asked him to have his teeth pulled! lol Needless to say, I didn't get one :o(

I am trying to collect t-shirts for a t-shirt quilt. I have been buying some from thrift stores for some samples for my quilting business, but I would like to make one that has some meaning to me or to someone. I've checked the kids closets, but they took their good ones! What's with that??

Not much else this week. We made more salsa. We had a rain storm yesterday...leftovers from the lastest hurrican....can't even remember the name of this one.

The Harvest

It's that time of year....the harvest! The garden did very well this year. We've had a ton of raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, bumper crop of summer squash and zucchini, cucumbers, tomatoes, peppers, cantelope, spaghetti squash, butternut squash, pumpkins (picture at a later time!), corn, popcorn, and acorn squash. the deer got the beans. All in all, it was a pretty good year, considering that it didn't rain much this summer.

Here is our latest batch of salsa. When you come, you will get to try our yummy salsa and chips!

Check out this raspberry pie! It is a new recipe I tried...can you tell that we like it :o) Wish you were all here to enjoy it with us.

We also got 300 pounds of honey! Wowzer!! That is a LOT of little honey bears running around here! Gordon always has the biggest grin as he is putting the honey in the containers. He just grins and says 'I earned this honey with all of the stings I got!' They were busy little bees...that includes my busy little bee, Gordon! Let the word out that Gordon is selling his local Maryland honey....and let me just say....it is beyond yummy!!!

I have been a busy bee myself :o) I have been working on a couple of quilts. Here is my first t-shirt quilt. I will be making another t-shirt quilt soon. They will serve as my samples as I try to promote my quilting business...both machine quilting and making memory t-shirt quilts for people. Sooooooo....If you know anyone looking for someone to quilt their quilts or have a bunch of t-shirts they don't wear but want to keep, let them know I will make them a scrapbook quilt full of their memories! (for a price of course ;o)

I had my first accident this morning on my way to work. I am okay but my trustee little Camry is a little worse for for the wear. I accidentally ran a red light. I usually take a back road through our neighborhood because of 2 new lights on rt. 32, but for some reason I took rt 26 to rt 32 and forgot there was a light there, and just my luck it was red and someone was in the intersection trying to make a left turn. Luckily it wasn't as bad as it could have been. You almost couldn't tell that she was in the accident. Her front bumper is scratched and that is about it! I was lucky she wasn't in the intersection farther or I would have hit her on her side and it wouldn't have been good.
